Welcome to First Lutheran - DeKalb, IL

Welcome to First Lutheran-DeKalb, IL (ELCA), where we are 'Hearing, Living and Sharing God's Word...together.'

Sunday worship at 9:00am includes music by our adult and hand bell choirs, and by our children. Social time and the Cross Walk at First Lutheran (faith formation for all ages) follow the Sunday worship service. Workshops and forums on issues of faith and life are offered for all ages. Coffee and conversation are always happening!

On Wednesday evenings our building is alive with the sounds of excited children as we gather for Cross Walk Wednesdays (for children K-6), Meal and a Message (for high school students), and Faith Trek (confirmation for grades 7-8).  We begin with a meal at 5:30 and then begin our evening workshops and activities.

We work together with many other churches to help people in need by partnering with Love In The Name of Christ, hosting the Feed 'em Soup community meal program, growing fresh produce for local food pantries and shelters with our Giving Garden, building homes with Habitat for Humanity, delivering Meals on Wheels, supporting Hope Haven (homeless shelter), the Salvation Army, the DeKalb Area Food Pantry, ELCA World Hunger, Lutheran World Relief, Lutheran Social Services of Illinois, by providing classroom space for the GED program of Kishwaukee Community College and by sponsoring Boy Scout Troop 33 and MOPS (Mother's of Preschoolers).

Our mission work extends around the world with our support of missionaries and mission trips to Africa, and Guatemala, and our sale of Equal Exchange coffee, tea and chocolate, which provides economic justice for small growers in Africa, Asia, Central and South America.

All are welcome here!  Come and check us out!

Saliga äro de som höra Gud's ord och gömma det Saliga äro de som höra Gud's ord och gömma det
When First Lutheran Church was founded in 1858, all the services were in Swedish. Above the altar in the worship room can still be found these words which translate to "Blessed are those who hear God's word and do it."
