First Lutheran Church is a vibrant and friendly congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America located in the Northern Illinois Synod.

Founded by Swedish immigrants in 1858, First Lutheran has particularly strong music, children's, and youth programs, and a strong tradition of supporting the fine arts.

Above the altar in the worship room are engraved the Swedish words Saliga äro de som höra Gud's ord och gömma det. What do they mean? Click here to find out!

Worship life is central to all that takes place in the life of First Lutheran Church.

The 9:00 AM Traditional Service on Sunday mornings features a traditional liturgy and utilizes the Lutheran Book of Worship as a primary resource, along with the worship supplement, With One Voice.

The 11:15 AM Informal Praise Service is led by a worship team that includes singers, piano, guitar, and percussion. Song lyrics and spoken parts of the service are projected using the latest technology.

The building is handicapped accessible. A staffed nursery is provided at both services.

The mission of First Lutheran Church is to hear, live, and share God's Word together.
